Netflix Orders New Original Comedy Series ‘LADY DYNAMITE’ From Maria Bamford
Netflix has announced that they’ve greenlit Lady Dynamite, an upcoming original comedy series starring alternative stand-up Maria Bamford.
The series is said to be based on what Bamford has accepted to be “her life”. The occasionally surreal episodes, refracted across multiple periods inspired by the actor/comedian’s life, tell the story of a woman who loses– and then finds– her s**t.
Pam Brady, Mitch Hurwitz and Bamford are executive producers on the single camera comedy series, which Netflix has ordered thirteen 30-minute episodes of for her debut on the streaming service at a yet-to-be-determined date.
A gifted impressionist known for her off-kilter character and unique stage presence, Bamford has previously been seen under the umbrella of Netflix for the experimental Maria Bamford: The Special Special Special, in which the comic performs her entire show for her parents in her living room, as well as the feature-length Comedians of Comedy documentary, one of the first such films to be financed by Netflix. The Comedians of Comedy was a tour organized in 2004 around then lesser-known alternative comedians Patton Oswald, Zack Galifianakis, Brian Posehn and Bamford.
Bamford is also known for television appearances on shows like Arrested Development, Louie, Maron and as a frequent guest voice on Adventure Time.
