‘CAPTAIN MARVEL’ Will Film in California

The California Film Commission announced today that Marvel Studios’ highly antipated solo film CAPTAIN MARVEL, Paramount’s ISLAND PLAZA and Roland Emmerich’s MIDWAY have been selected as part of the tax credits.

Louis D’Esposito, Marvel Studios Co-President said:

“Our headquarters and post-production facilities are in California, so it’s very exciting to be able to film CAPTAIN MARVEL here in our home state thanks to this California tax credits. As a result, not only will we be able to streamline our production process for this and other films we’re working on concurrently, but we’ll have more time to spend with our families.”

Captain Marvel and the other studio projects have production budgets in excess of $75 million, which would have made them ineligible for the state’s first-generation tax credit program.

Amy Lemisch, California Film Commission Executive Director said:

“With the three we’ve added today, a total of six big-budget films have been lured to California thanks to Program 2.0. Such films are a primary target for the tax credits program because they can bring significant jobs and spending to regions across the state.”

Lemisch added:

“Production companies are rediscovering the diverse locations available across the state. For example, MIDWAY plans to film extensively in Alameda County, where the producers can take advantage of the Bay Area’s unique locations, production infrastructure and skilled crews.”

Other projects selected are indies Happytime Murders, directed by Brian Henson and starring Melissa McCarthy, and Cheney, starring Amy Adams, Christian Bale and Steve Carell. The projects also includes A Christmas Story: The Musical Live!, Bird Box and Peppermint.

Based on these eight film projects announced today means that more than 2,600 cast and crew will be employed, and generate nearly $385 million in qualified spending. Four of the eight projects plan to shoot at least partially outside the Los Angeles 30-mile zone (as far away as northern California.)

Steven Moffat Talks Jodie Whittaker’s 13th Doctor

Doctor Who 13 Jodie Whittaker

This Christmas special marks Peter Capaldi’s last appearance as the 12th Doctor, but also marks the last for showrunner Steven Moffat, who has been involved with the BBC series since season 5. Now Moffat is passing the torch to Broadchurch‘s Chris Chibnall, which will launch season 11 in 2018 with Jodie Whittaker set to play the 13th Doctor.

Moffat spoke to Comingsoon during this year’s San Diego Comic-Con and reacted all about it.

I’ve known for the entire series I’ve been working on that the next Doctor was going to be a woman. I didn’t know that it would be Jodie. I didn’t know that until the Friday before the announcement. I didn’t want to know until Peter [Capaldi] knew. That was my rule.”

Having Whittaker as the first female doctor changes and influences those little girls who watch the show. While others have been slightly arguing about it, Moffat reveals that gender doesn’t mean anything.

“I thought that, if this is the last go-round for a long while of the Doctor being a man, I thought I should bring out all these manly qualities. There aren’t any! He doesn’t have any masculine qualities at all. It makes absolutely no difference. It’s a pronoun. This man/woman doesn’t have any masculine qualities and probably won’t have any feminine qualities, either. He’s an alien in the form of a human male, now an alien in the form of a human female and that’s it. The truth is– and Chris and I have been talking about this– is how long does it take for the Doctor to notice? Missy didn’t know! Time Lords don’t care about that kind of stuff!”

The Christmas Special will be called “Twice Upon a Time” and taking the end of the season 10 finale, it pairs Capaldi with the first Doctor in a story set during 1966’s “The Tenth Planet.” The episode marks the final regular appearance of leading man William Hartnell. Harnell passed away in 1975, so for the part David Bradley will be stepping in.

Watch the Easter Eggs For ‘THE DARK TOWER’

the dark tower

Sony Pictures has released this new video for THE DARK TOWER, which teases some of the Stephen King references that play a part in the film’s multiversal storyline. Check it out down below!

The Dark Tower is the most ambitious and expansive story from one of the world’s most celebrated authors, Stephen King. Now the story comes to the big screen starring Idris Elba as Roland Deschain aka The Gunslinger and Matthew McConaughey as Walter O’Dim aka Randall Flagg the Man in Black.

Directed by Nikolaj Arcel (A Royal Affair), the film also stars Tom Taylor as Jake Chambers, Abbey Lee as Tirana, and Fran Kranz as Pimli, the right hand man of Randall Flagg. Also starring Jackie Earle Haley, Katheryn Winnick and Claudia Kim.

The Dark Tower series tells the story of Roland Deschain, Mid-World’s last gunslinger, who is traveling southeast across Mid-World’s post-apocalyptic landscape, searching for the powerful but elusive magical edifice known as The Dark Tower. Located in the fey region of End-World, amid a sea of singing red roses, the Dark Tower is the nexus point of the time-space continuum. It is the heart of all worlds, but it is also under threat. Someone, or something, is using the evil technology of the Great Old Ones to destroy it.

The Dark Tower hits theaters on August 4.

New ‘JUSTICE LEAGUE’ Reshoot Details

justice league

Extensive reshoots are currently underway on Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Films’ upcoming and anticipated JUSTICE LEAGUE, but now Variety has published a full article which gives details about what’s being done, including Henry Cavill’s schedule.

The cast attended this weekend’s San Diego Comic-Con and the reshoots are currently under the director of Joss Whedon, who steps in after a tragic incident that happened to the Snyder family. Most of the scenes that Snyder did will remain in the film, however, the reshoots are all about connecting and character between Snyder’s set pieces and Whedon’s. Makes sense when Whedon is solid when it comes to dialogue and Snyder with action.

Since Whedon is stepping in to deliver the film, does that mean he gets credit? No. Snyder will remain the sole credited director, while Whedon will take a screenwriting and/or producing credit, along with a fee for his work. This is similar to Tony Gilroy’s role in supervising reshoots on last year’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which earned him a writing credit and $5 million fee.

What about the actors? Heat Vision‘s Borys Kit confirms that the reshoots are “substantial.” Both Gal Gadot and Jason Momoa were called in for their characters for two weeks. Momoa took some time off from his Aquaman solo in Australia to film his scenes. Other actors have done up to four weeks of work. Gadot and Ben Affleck have no conflicting productions, but Flash actor Ezra Miller had to pull away from a major role reprising Credence Barebone in the Fantastic Beasts sequel. On the other side, Henry Cavill and his schedule is quite tricky. He has to balance between Justice League and shooting Paramount’s Mission Impossible 6. What might be a problem? For starters, Cavill’s role in MI6 requires him to have mustache, which means that Warner Bros. might have to move to using digital solutions to remove the mustache in Justice League‘s post-production.

In Justice League, fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher, Willem Dafoe, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, Amber Heard, Kiersey Clemons, J.K Simmons, Ciarán Hinds and Amy Adams.

Once again directed by Zack Snyder from a script by Chris Terrio, from a story by Snyder and Terrio. Joss Whedon is set to direct additional re-shoot footage for the film in order to complete post-production following a family tragedy that happened with the Snyder.

Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder, Jon Berg and Geoff Johns produce. Jim Rowe, Wesley Coller, Curt Kanemoto, Terrio and Affleck executive produce.

Justice League hits theaters on November 10.

The First Teaser Trailer For Netflix’s ‘ALIAS GRACE’

Netflix has released their first teaser trailer for their upcoming six-hour miniseries adaption ALIAS GRACE, which can be seen down below!

Inspired by the historical true story of convicted murderer Grace Marks, the series is based on the award-winning novel by Margaret Atwood of the same name. The story follows Grace Marks (Sarah Gadon), a poor, young Irish immigrant and domestic servant in Upper Canada who, along with stable hand James McDermott (Kerr Logan) was convicted of the brutal murders of their employer, Thomas Kinnear, and his housekeeper, Nancy Montgomery (Anna Paquin), in 1843. James was hanged while Grace was sentenced to life imprisonment. Grace became one of the most enigmatic and notorious women of 1840s Canada for her supported role in the sensational double murder, and was eventually exonerated after 30 years in jail. Her conviction was controversial, and sparked much debate about whether Grace was actually involved in the murder, or merely an unwitting accessory.

Written and produced by Sarah Polley and directed by Mary Harron. The series is a co-production with Halfire Entertainment, CBC and Netflix. Polley, Harron and Noreen Halpern executive produce.

ALIAS GRACE will broadcast in Canada on CBC and stream everywhere else globally on Netflix on Friday, November 3.
