Straight from the final day of the Television Critics Association (TCA) press tour, creator Ryan Murphy spoke about the upcoming season 2 of AMERICAN CRIME STORY: THE ASSASSINATION OF GIANNI VERSACE (originally Katrina: American Crime Story was set to be the second, but now will be the third).

Murphy revealed that Versace will be told in reverse, with the murder occurring first and then the explanation as to how it happened. He also spoke about the homophobia in the country at the time and how it contributed to the murder.

“We’re trying to talk about a crime within a social idea. Versace, who was [Andrew Cunnan’s] last victim, did not have to die. One of the reasons he was able to make his way across the country and pick off these victims, many of whom were gay, was because of homophobia at the time.”

Cunanan killed at least four people before he killed Versace on July 15, 1997.

Murphy, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Brad Falchuk and Tom Rob Smith executive produce. It is written by Tom Rob Smith and Murphy, who directed the first episode. Starring Darren Criss, Edgar Ramirez, Penelope Cruz and Ricky Martin. The series is produced by FOX 21 Television Studios and FX Productions.
