August 2, 2017

British writer Jack Throne, who wrote the upcoming Wonder, has joined the upcoming and anticipated STAR WARS: EPISODE IX, to be directed by Colin Trevorrow.

Trevorrow and Derek Connolly wrote the most recent draft of the script. Production is scheduled to begin in January 2018 for a May 24, 2019 release.

In addition, star John Boyega recently spoke to ABC News’ Popcorn with Peter Travers and revealed more about the late Carrie Fisher’s role in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. There’s SPOILERS ahead so don’t read if you don’t want to get spoiled.

“We have many scenes in 8, in this one coming up. This movie, it sends her off in an amazing, amazing way. She’s still kept alive in this franchise and that’s the beauty of it. She lives forever in a sense.”

The Last Jedi is written and directed by Rian Johnson and continues the storylines introduced in The Force Awakens. Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Lupita Nyong’o, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie and Andy Serkis reprise their roles. They’re joined by franchise newcomers Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern and newcomer Kelly Marie Tran.

Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman produce. J.J Abrams, Jason McGatlin, and Tom Karnowski executive produce.
