Non-Stop and The Shallows director Jaume Collet-Serra is set to direct Disney’s upcoming live-action JUNGLE CRUISE based on their popular theme park attraction. Dwayne Johnson will lead, with production set to begin in spring of 2018.

Collet-Serra was also eyeing to direct Warner Bros. and DC Films’s Suicide Squad 2, but he’s not attached anymore.

Writer-director duos John Requa and Glenn Ficarra were originally set to write Jungle Cruise script, though J.D Payne and Patrick McKay wrote the most recent draft. Johnson is set to produce alongside his Seven Bucks Productions banner and partners Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia, as well as frequent collaborator Beau Flynn of Flynn Pictures Co. John Davis and John Fox of David Entertainment will also produce.

A film adaption of the ride, one of the original rides from the opening day of Disneyland was previously in development with a script by Al Gough and Miles Millar. Another attempt was made in 2011, with Disney even announcing that an adaption would have Toy Story‘s Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, but neither moved forward.

Jungle Cruise joins the films based on their theme park attractions, including The Country Bears, The Haunted Mansion, Mission to Mars, Tomorrowland and Pirates of the Caribbean.
