‘VENOM’ and ‘SILVER & BLACK’ Directors Talk Spider-Man Spinoffs

July 19, 2017

It remains unclear how the shape of the films and how their interactions with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will be. Variety recently spoke to the filmmakers behind Sony’s upcoming Spider-Man spinoffs, VENOM and SILVER & BLACK and both gave teases as to what can be expected.

Filmmaker Ruben Fleischer will be working with Venom and mentions that his vision for the upcoming film is like a horror film, in the vein of John Carpenter or David Cronenberg. Interesting.

“I’ve always been drawn to the more antihero superheroes. There’s a dark element to [VENOM] and a wit that has always appealed to me.”

Fleischer also teased Eddie Brock and the Symbiote will have a Jekyll/Hyde relationship in the film. Once again, interesting!

“They become almost a third being, which is what VENOM is. There’s a famous quote: ‘You’re Eddie Brock. I’m the symbiote. Together we are Venom.'”

Tom Hardy is set to play the titular anti-hero in the film, which will have Carnage as its antagonist. Venom is scheduled to hit theaters on October 5, 2018.

On the other side, Silver & Black director Gina Prince-Bythewood compares the film to the likes of Thelma & Louise and Midnight Run.

“I wanted to tell the story of two damaged women who are at war with each other but need each other to survive.”

No casting or release date has been set as of yet.
