Sandra Bullock is eyeing to star in Netflix’s post-apocalyptic thriller BIRD BOX.

Based on the 2014 novel by Josh Malerman, the story is set in the near future, where Malorie (Bullock) and her two young children are among a small group of survivors after a mysterious alien force has driven the world’s population to deadly violence. The three must make their way on a terrifying journey– 20 miles in a rowboat– while blindfolded, with nothing to rely on but Malorie’s wits and the children’s trained ears.

Before Netflix acquired the project, Universal had acquired the book in 2013 with Eric Heisserer (Arrival) writing the script. Mama and IT director Andy Muschietti was originally attach to direct, but now Susanne Bier (In a Better World, The Night Manager) will direct from Heisserer’s script.

Netflix Film Chief Scott Stuber , Dylan Clark, Chris Morgan, and Clayton Townsend will produce.

Production is being eyed to start in August.

Bullock will be seen next in Gary Ross’s all-star cast in the female spin-off Ocean’s Eight next summer.
