Felicity Jones Eyes ‘SWAN LAKE’

July 8, 2017

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story star Felicity Jones is attached to star in an untitled film based on the classic ballet Swan Lake. Luca Guadagnino (A Bigger Splash) is set to direct from a script by Kristina Lauren Anderson. The film will not feature dancing, and instead be centered around the story of ballet. Mandeville Films will be producing.

Swan Lake was written by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikowvsky from 1875-1876. The ballet premiered in 1877 at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow. It was famously featured on the 2010 film Black Swan, starring Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis. It’s the story of Odette, a young woman who was transformers into a swan by an evil sorcerer. The curse can only be broken if someone who has never loved before swears to love Odette for all time. Prince Siegfried sees her and offers to kill the sorcerer, but he cannot die or the curse can never be broken. The daughter of the sorcerer, Odile (played by the same ballerina) is brought to the castle and Sigfried proposes, thinking it’s Odette. Things don’t end well for the couple as you can recall from the Swan Lake scene in Black Swan.

In addition to playing Jyn Erso, the leader of the group of Rebels that stole the Death Star plans in Rogue One, Jones is also known for her work in The Theory of Everything, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress. She’s also starred in The Tempest with Helen Mirren and Russell Brand, Inferno and A Monster Calls.
