Olivia Cooke to Star in ITV and Amazon Studios’s ‘VANITY FAIR’ Adaption

Olivia Cooke is set to star in ITV and Amazon Studios upcoming seven-part drama series VANITY FAIR, based on William Makepeace Thackeray’s classic 1848 novel of the same name. Cooke will play heroine Becky Sharp.

Mammoth Screen (Poldark, Victoria) produces. Written by Gwyneth Hughes, the series is set against the backdrop of the Napolenic Wars, and follows Sharp as she attempts to claw her way out of poverty and scale the heights of English Society. Her story of villainy, crime, merriment, lovemacking, jilting, laughing, cheating, fighting and dancing, takes her all the way to the court of King George IV, via the Battle of Waterloo, breaking hearts and losing fortunes along the way.

There has been many screen adaption of the novel, including 2004 feature with Reese Witherspoon as Becky and a 1998 BBC version.

VANITY FAIR will be produced by Julia Stannard (War & Peace) with James Strong (Broadchurch) directing. Mammoth Screen’s Damien Timmer executive produces with Hughes, Strong and Tom Mullens.

Production is set to begin in September.

Cooke is known for starring in A&E’s Bates Motel, which wrapped a five season run. Her feature credits includes Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, The Limehouse Golem and Thoroughbred, and she’ll star next in Steven Spielberg’s upcoming sci-fi thriller adaption Ready Player One next year.
