Tommy Lee Jones Eyes Brad Pitt’s Futuristic Sci-Fi ‘AD ASTRA’

June 23, 2017

Jason Bourne (2016)

Tommy Lee Jones is in final talks to join Brad Pitt in AD ASTRA, a working title of a futuristic sci-fi epic for New Regency. James Gray co-wrote and will direct.

Details are being kept under wraps, but Ad Astra means “to the stars” in Latin. Pitt will play a slightly autistic space engineer Roy McBride. Twenty years after his father left on a one-way mission to Neptune in order to find signs of extra-terrestrial intelligence, McBride travels through the solar system to find him and understand why his mission failed.

Jones would play the father, and the film has a bit of Heart of Darkness vibe, set in deep space.

Gray co-wrote the script with Ethan Gross. RT Features financed the film. Plan B is producing with Gray, RT Features’ Rodrigo Teixeira, Keep Your Head Productions’ Anthony Katagas, and Mad River’s Marc Butan. RT Features’ Lourenco Sant’Anna and Sophie Mass executive produce.

Production begins on September.
