Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures announced that Godzilla 2, the next film in their cinematic MonsterVerse, has officially begun production!

Directed by Michael Dougherty, the film stars Vera Farmiga, Ken Watanabe and Sally Hawkins reprising their roles, Kyle Chandler, Millie Bobby Brown in her feature film debut, Bradley Whitford, Thomas Middleditch, Charles Dance, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Aisha Hinds, and Zhang Ziyi.

The sequel will follow the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including their mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mother, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species– thought to be mere myths– rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.

Dougherty directs from a script he co-wrote with Zach Shields. Mary Parent, Alex Garcia, Brian Rogers and Thomas Tull produce. Barry H. Waldman, Zach Shields, Yoshimitsu Banno and Kenji Okuhira executive produce. Alexandra Mendes from Legendary co-produces.

Dougherty’s behind the scenes team includes director of photography Lawrence She, production designer Scott Chambliss, editor Roger Barton, costume designer Louise Migenbach, and VFX supervisor Guillaume Rocheron.

Filming will take place in Atlanta, Georgia. A Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures production, the film is set for a March 2019 release.
