‘BUMBLEBEE’ Spinoff Will Take Place in the ’80s

Empire Magazine has revealed that Paramount Pictures’s first Transformers spinoff film BUMBLEBLEE will be set in the 1980s, aka the heyday for the Transformers brand’s popularity.

The film will feature less Autobots and Decepticons than the typical Transformers film, with the spotlight being on Bumblebee and the tone geared for a younger audience.

Hailee Steinfeld will lead as a tomboy who holds a job as a mechanic after school. Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings) will direct from a script by Christina Hodson.

Bumblebee has been a fan favorite since he was first introduced. He transformers from a Volskwagen Beetle in the earlier versions of the character. In the Transformers Cinematic Universe, he transformers into a Chevrolet Camaro. The character will appear next in the upcoming Transformers: The Last Knight, starring Mark Wahlberg, Isabela Moner, Jerro Carmichael, Josh Duhamel, Anthony Hopkins, Laura Haddock, Santiago Cabrera, Liam Garrigan and Stanley Tucci. It hits theaters on June 21.

Hodson, Brian Holdner, Stephen Davis, Lorenzo Di Bonaventura, Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg will produce Bumblebee.
