Patty Jenkins Not Signed Yet to Direct ‘WONDER WOMAN 2’

June 7, 2017

Patty Jenkins

Without a doubt the box office hit and critical success of Wonder Woman has taken Warner Bros. Pictures off guard. According to THRJenkins is yet not signed on for the sequel. It was only star Gal Gadot who is signed for two films. Upon the film’s release, Jenkins has expressed interest in returning for a second film, but she first has to negotiate her deal, writing a treatment with Geoff Johns as well as writing other potential DC Extended Universe films.

This sounds similar to the deal that Joss Whedon signed with Marvel after the success of The Avengers in 2012, where he returned for Avengers: Age of Ultron, but also got paid to help other Phase 2 movies like Thor: The Dark World.

The DCEU has been tricky about releasing other film as The Batman has a late 2018 release, there’s an accelerated development on Whedon’s Batgirl and Justice League Dark, the later which is currently searching for a director (IT’s Andy Muschietti and Wild Tales‘s Damián Szifron are rumored to be on that list). Suicide Squad 2 and Gotham City Sirens are also in development and The Flash solo film continues to be on the limbo as it’s currently looking for a new director.

Wonder Woman continues to dominate the box office acquiring $11.8 million on Monday and on Tuesday with $14.4 million, for a domestic box office total of $129.4 million. Despite the competition with Universal’s The Mummy starring Tom Cruise, Wonder Woman is expected to continue taking the top stop at the box office again this weekend.

Wonder Woman is produced by Charles Roven, Zack Snyder, and Deborah Snyder, with Richard Suckle, Stephen Jones, Wesley Coller, Geoff Johns and Rebecca Roven executive producing. Starring Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, Ewen Bremner, Saïd Taghmaoiu, Elena Anaya, Connie Nielsen, Lucy Davis and David Thewlis.
