Following the success of Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman, DC Comics universe seems clearer. Now, THR recently spoke with Joel Kinnaman about House of Cards Season 5 and about the status of the next Suicide Squad film.

“As far as I know they’re writing the script and I think the plan is to shoot it sometime in 2018, but that could change. I think I’ll definitely come back for it.”

While rumors were that Ruben Fleischer, Mel Gibson, Jonathan Levine and Daniel Espinosa could possibly direct the next film, Kinnaman confirms the sequel is currently without a director.

“Ultimately, I’d love for David Ayer to direct it, but if he doesn’t want to direct it, then [it should be] someone who is great with character and that’s able to ground the story and maybe put these characters in a more normal situation. It would be really interesting to see these crazy characters interact with regular people as well.”

Adam Cozad (The Legend of Tarzan, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit) joined to write the script for the sequel.

Directed by David Ayer, Suicide Squad stars Adele Akkinnuoye-Agbaje, Adam Beach, Jai Courtney, Viola Davis, Cara Delevingne, Karen Fukuhara, Jay Hernandez, Joel Kinnaman, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie and Will Smith, most of whom are expected to return for the sequel. Ayer is working with Robbie on Gotham City Sirens film.
