Sam Mendes in Talks For Disney’s Live-Action ‘PINOCCHIO’

Sam Mendes is currently in talks to direct Disney’s upcoming live-action of PINOCCHIO. This is the latest of live-action films from the studio following Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, The Jungle Book, The Lion King to be directed by Jon Favreau, Dumbo to be directed by Tim Burton, and many more.

Pinocchio centers on the wooden puppet who dreams of becoming a “real boy” and the relationship between a father and son, the ramifications of lying and creating stories and living in a fantasy world. The original film was released in 1940 and based on the 1883 novel “The Adventures of Pinocchio” by Carlo Called, won two Oscars. No release date is set for the live action Pinocchio.

Mendes is known for directing 1999’s American Beauty, for which he won an Oscar for Best Director. He’s also known for Road to Perdition starring Tom Hanks, Paul Newman, Jude Law and Daniel Craig, Bond films Spectre and Skyfall. He’s also known for musicals like Cabaret, Oliver!, Company and Gypsy. He’s also the executive produce for TV series like The Hollow Crown and Penny Dreadful.
