Just three days ago NBC announced that their freshman time-travel drama TIMELESS was cancelled, but now it’s been announced that the network has reversed the cancellation and renewed the show for a second season of 10-episodes set to air next spring or summer 2018.

While the show had modest ratings, the show made it vulnerable for the cancellation, however, the series had support internally at the network.

Jennifer Salke, NBC Entertainment President told Deadline:

“We really like it. I didn’t think it was going to be like THIS IS US, but I am a little surprised that it didn’t settle in at a higher number.”

In TIMELESS, a mysterious criminal steals a secret state-of-the-art time machine, intent on destroying America as we know it by changing the past. Our only hope is an unexpected team: Rufus, a scientist; Wyatt, a soldier; and Lucy, a history professor, all of who must use the machine’s prototype to travel back in time to critical events. While they must make every effort not to affect the past themselves, they must also stay one step ahead of Flynn, a dangerous fugitive. But can this handpicked team uncover the mystery behind it all and end his destruction before it’s too late?

From Sony Pictures TV, the series is created by Shawn Ryan and Eric Kripke, and starring Abigail Spencer, Matt Lanter, Malcolm Barrett, Goran Višnijic, Paterson Joseph, Sakina Jaffrey and Claudia Doumi. The first season ended in a cliffhanger with Lucy learning that her mother was part of the Rittenhouse organization.

The series drew praise for its depiction of history, recently earning recognition from the Smithsonian.
