May 5, 2017

NBC has picked up RISE and FOR GOD AND COUNTRY to series.

Former How I Met Your Mother star Josh Radnor leads RISE, which is based on the book “Drama High”, written by Michael Sokolove about his high school drama teacher Lou Volpe. Volpe is known for moving to the blue collar town of Levittown, Pennsylvania and inspiring the students there with productions of sometimes controversial musicals and plays that kids could relate to.

The show comes from Friday Night Lights executive producer and show runner Jason Katims and Hamilton producer Jeffrey Seller. Radnor plays Lou Mazzuchelli, who is a drama teacher, father of three and an English teacher in Pennsylvania. He decides to take over the drama department of a high school and change the lives of his students.

Radnor is joined alongside Shannon Purser (Stranger Things), Rosie Perez, Marley Shelton, Auli’i Cravalho (Moana) and Rarmian Newton. Katims will produce with Michelle Lee through True Jack Productions, with Seller and Floyd Suarez for Seller Suarez Productions.

Meanwhile FOR GOD AND COUNTRY stars Mike Vogel (Cloverfield) and Anne Heche and looks at the world of military, and the sacrifices they make behind enemy lines. Written by Dean Georgaris who will executive produce with Keshet’s Avi Nir, Peter Traugott and Rachel Kaplan.
