Following the photo that director James Wan shared on his Twitter last night, production has officially began for Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Comics solo film, AQUAMAN!

The press release gives the following info on the shoot:

As is fitting for the king of the sea, the shoot will take place mainly in locations spanning the stunning Gold Coast of Queensland, Australia, with extensive filming to be accomplished at Village Roadshow Studios. The production will utilize the facility’s sprawling backlot and all nine VRS soundstages, including its newest, Stage 9, the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. Filming will also take place in Newfoundland, Sicily and Tunisia.

In addition, a new logo for the film has been released and can be seen up below!

Jason Momoa leads the cast as the titular character and is joined alongside Amber Heard as Mera, Queen of Atlantis, Nicole Kidman as Aquaman’s mother Atlanna, Temeura Morrison as Aquaman’s father, Patrick Wilson as Aquaman’s brother Orm aka Ocean Master, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Willem Dafoe as Vulko, and Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus.

Aquaman’s first appearance was in More Fun Comics #73 on November 1941 and was created by Paul Norris and Mort Weisinger. An icon for over 70 years, Aquaman is the King of the Seven Seas. This reluctant ruler of Atlantis, caught between a surface world constantly ravaging the sea and Atlanteans looking to lash out in revolt, is committed to protecting the entire globe.

Aquaman hits theaters on December 21, 2018.

Before his solo film, Momoa will be seen in Zack Snyder’s Justice League alongside Heard, in theaters November 17.
