Last year, Paramount Pictures had vanished WORLD WAR Z 2 out of their release calendar, but now it seems that they’ve found their director. None other than David Fincher! While the film has yet to get an official green light, it seems that Fincher will re-team with star Brad Pitt. Production is most likely to begin in early 2018.

This would mark their third collaboration after working in 1995’s Se7en, 1999’s Fight Club and in 2008’s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Fincher’s last feature was 2014’s Gillian Flynn’s adaption Gone Girl and most recently directing Netflix’s pilot from the upcoming series MIND HUNTERS.

The first World War Z followed United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop a pandemic that is toppling armies and government and threatening to decimate humanity itself. It also starred Mireille Enos, Daniella Kertesz, James Badge Dale, Matthew Fox and David Morse.

Despite production problems and having an expansive reshoot of the film’s third act, the film was a hit worldwide with $540 million. Based on Max Brooks’ novel of the same name, the film was directed by Forster on a $190 million budget. The sequel will be produced by Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Ian Bryce and Skydance’s David Ellison.
