Check out this new international trailer that Universal Pictures has released for their upcoming remake, THE MUMMY starring Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella and Russell Crowe! Check it down below!

In addition, EW has published an article which contains the backstory of Boutella’s Princess Ahmanet, whose father went back on his promise to make her pharaoh once he had a son. This led Ahmanet to use dark magic to get what’s rightfully hers. This is how director Alex Kurtzman describes her:

“[She’s] a woman who wasn’t content to be put in her place and wanted something more.”

Boutella said:

“These people never shouted. They were the most powerful people, but they were just calm.”

Kurtzman also confirmed that we will not see the entire league of Universal monsters debut in this film, despite the early presence of Crowe playing Dr. Jekyll.

“The movie’s called THE MUMMY not THE MUMMY MEETS 12 OTHER MONSTERS. If we create a world that feels interesting and scary, then we will have succeeded in setting up the larger universe.”

Starring Tom Cruise in this all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilization: The Mummy.

Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen (Sofia Boutella) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her, is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.

From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.

Cruise is joined alongside Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance, and Russell Crowe.

Directed by Alex Kurtzman, who also produces alongside Chris Morgan and Sean Daniel. Jon Spaihts and Christopher McQuarrie wrote the script. Bobby Cohen executive produces. This is the first film in the Universal Monster cinematic universe with plans later to expand with The Wolfman, The Invisible Man, Bride of Frankenstein, and Van Helsing, all in various stages of development.

The Mummy hits theaters on June 9.
