Will Smith is currently in early talks to join Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of ALADDIN as the Genie! This character was voiced in the animated film by the late Robin Williams.

Production is currently expected to begin in June of this year in the UK and will shoot until early 2018. This marks the second project Smith has been in talks as he was also up for the live-action Dumbo film with Tim Burton, but it seems those plans didn’t moved forward.

A worldwide casting call is currently underway in search for the film’s two lead roles as Disney is looking for a Middle Eastern actor and actress to play the roles of Aladdin and Princess Jasmine.

Guy Ritchie will direct from a script by John August and will also keep the musical elements of the 1992 hit.

Aladdin joins the long list of upcoming live-action remakes that Disney is doing based on their classic animated films, including Cinderella, The Jungle Book, Pete’s Dragon, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Mulan, Dumbo and many more.
