POWER RANGERS Sequel Would Like a Female Green Ranger
Fans of the Power Rangers film who stayed during the end of the credits scene know that there is likely an appearance from the Green Ranger in the upcoming sequel. Now as you know, the original Mighty Morphin Powers Rangers series, the Green Ranger was an alternate identity of Tommy Oliver (played by Jason David Frank). Throughout the franchise’s run, Oliver has returned as a number of different rangers, including the White Ranger, the Red Ranger and most recently, the Black Ranger. Oliver does not appear in the new film, but the latest news is that there’s a possibility to see a female Green Ranger if the studio decides to have a sequel.
Dacre Montgomery, who plays the new Red Ranger told THR:
“A lot of the cast and I have discussed that we think it should be a girl. It makes it even: three girls, three boys. It’s left blank. It’s a cliffhanger. Whoever you’re going to drop into that position– whether it’s a girl– it’s inevitably going to create drama. It’ll be interesting to drop that drama into it and see how we all relate to it and work with it.”
Meanwhile, the film’s director Dean Israelite said:
“There’s a post-credits scene, so people should stay. It teased up the direction of what the next movie could be. For people that know the brand, it’s super exciting. There are so many ideas we’re kicking around in the direction of where the film leads you.”
Saban’s Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove– and the world– is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.
Starring Dacre Montgomery as Jason the Red Ranger, RJ Cyler as Billy the Blue Ranger, Naomi Scott as Kimberly the Pink Ranger, Becky G as Trini the Yellow Ranger, Ludi Lin as Zack the Black Ranger, Bill Hader voicing Alpha 5, Bryan Cranston as Zordon, and Elizabeth Banks as villain Rita Repulsa.
Directed by Dean Israelite, the film is written by John Gatins, Burk Sharpless, and Matt Sazama, Zack Stentz, and Ashley Miller, and Max Landis. Power Rangers creator Haim Saban, Brian Casentini, Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen produce.
Power Rangers is currently playing in theaters.
