Veteran show runner David Milch is joining TRUE DETECTIVE creator Nic Pizzolatto for the upcoming third season of the crime drama.

Milch is known for his work in NYPD Blue as co-creator. While their collaboration is still being worked out, rumors are that Milch could be working as a consultant. HBO has yet to speak more into details about that. No finished scripts have been done yet, they’re in very early drafts.

Season 3 has been in development for two years now. Back in January, HBO President of Programming Casey Bloys said that he was “hopeful” about the third season and that their needed to be someone else to be part of the writing staff.

The first season was very well received, even landing a few of awards wins and nominations, which quickly triggered the network to renew for a second season. The second season draw mixed reactions from critics and fans which featured a new scenario and characters.

In addition to True Detective Season 3, Pizzolatto also has another overall deal with the network, working on a Perry Mason series set to star Robert Downey Jr., which is still in development.
