ABC Renews All Three Shondaland Shows
ABC has announced that they’ve renewed all three Shondaland shows– GREY’S ANATOMY Season 14, SCANDAL Season 7 and HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER Season 4.
Channing Dungey, ABC Entertainment President said of the announcement:
“GREY’S ANATOMY, SCANDAL and HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER continue to keep viewers on the edge of their seats and wanting more. I’m thrilled to bring back these shows and the OMG moments that come with them.”
Scandal was delayed until midseason in order to accommodate leading star Kerry Washington’s pregnancy. That explains why that show was not part of the fall lineup and why freshman series Notorious took that timelot, but didn’t gathered much attention.
No decision has been made regarding the show’s season count or whether it will be back in the fall or launch again in midseason. Dungey said that it was too early to tell.
That’s not all. Scandal affected HTGAWM, which although it’s strong in the creative part, but not ratings. Dungey said:
“NOTORIOUS did not perform as strongly as we would have hoped… But if you look at HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER over the seven-day period, we generally go up in triple-digit percentages, an average of 115 to 117 percent for the show. So that signals that people are still as engaged with it as before. I do think that the lack of TGIF pull-through did affect the number a little bit.”
Lastly, Dungey seems very optimistic regarding Grey’s Anatomy to continue for many more seasons.
Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and HTGAWM airs Thursdays at 8PM, 9PM and 10PM ET/PT on ABC.
