Creators, Showrunners and executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss previously teased that there was only two seasons left of HBO’s hit fantasy series GAME OF THRONES. Now, HBO has officially confirmed that the show will end with season 8.

Casey Bloys, HBO Programming President said at this year’s Television Critics Association (TCA) panel:

“Yes, they have a very specific plan about the number of seasons they want to do. Believe me, as the new [programming executive] coming in, if I could get them to do more. I would take 10 more seasons. But we take their lead on what they think they can do the best version of the show.”

Bloys was asked whether a spinoff series can happen, something that has many fans interest online.

“We’ve talked about it, it’s something I’m not opposed to, but of course it has to make sense creatively. I’m not sure that the guys could really wrap their heads around when they’re just about to start production. It’s a pretty intense production, they’re about to start production soon. I’m open to it. The guys weren’t opposed to it, but there’s no concrete plans for it at this point.”

Game of Thrones recently received 23 Primetime Emmy nominations, the most of any nominee for the third consecutive year. This year’s nominations include Outstanding Drama Series, 2 for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (Peter Dinklage and Kit Harington), 3 for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (Emilia Clarke, Lena Headey and Maisie Williams), Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series (Max von Sydow), 2 for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series (Miguel Sapochnik and Jack Bender) and Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series (David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.)

The series is currently in pre-production for its seventh season, which will premiere next summer. Benioff, Weiss, Carolyn Strauss, Frank Doelger, and Bernadette Caulfield executive produce. Guymon Casady, Vince Gerardis, George R.R Martin and Bryan Cogman co-exeuctive produce. Chris Newman, Greg Spence and Lisa McAtackney produce.
