Gary Oldman Joins ‘RoboCop’
The Hollywood Reporter reports that British actor Gary Oldman has joined the cast of Jose Padilha’s film titled RoboCop. Oldman will play Norton, the scientist who invents the cyborg technology that brings Officer Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) back to life.
Norton will have to deal with the morality of saving Murphy’s life and the demands of the company that he works for.
Padilha said about the film:
“In the first ‘RoboCop’ when Alex Murphy is shot, gunned down, then you can see some hospitals and stuff and then you cut to him as RoboCop. My movie is between those two cuts. How do you make RoboCop? How do you slowly bring a guy to be a robot? How do you actually take humanity out of someone and how do you program a brain, so to speak, and how does that affect an individual?”
Oldman was recently nominated for an Oscar for his leading role in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and can be seen next in the big screen in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming and anticipated film The Dark Knight Rises.
RoboCop is set for a release date of August 9, 2013.
